Happy Terpsday, ladies and gents! What a beautiful day it is and there’s no better way to start a beautiful day than to get a jump on what to smoke and where to kick it as the sun keeps shining. There are a lot of exciting new products here at Terp Bros Astoria, and so much fun stuff happening throughout Queens now that spring has finally sprung! LOCAL MUNCHIES HIGHLIGHT – KOLIBA (CZECH & SLOVAK COMFORT FOOD)
It’s no secret that New York is a melting pot of cultures and that is on full display in the diversity you see in the food scene. Here in Astoria, we’re lucky enough to have some of the best food options from cultures all over the world. Some of the tastiest Greek, Egyptian, and Middle Eastern dishes can be found right here in our neighborhood. However, those aren’t the only options. In fact, there is food from just about every part of the world here in Astoria and one amazing example of that is Koliba. This place has been serving up Czech and Slovak comfort food for over twenty years and the dishes are unbelievable. Eastern European food may not be your first thought when you hear “comfort food” but that will change after one trip to Koliba. Their grilled Klobasa sausage is one of the best in the city and we think you’ll agree their pierogies are top notch too, served with crumbled bacon and sour cream. What we truly love from Koliba (aside from everything) is their wide variety of traditional comfort food dishes like Beef Goulash, Potato Spaetzle with Sauerkraut, and Pork Schnitzel. Next time you’re trying to find a new spot for dinner, this place will not disappoint. Also, pro tip: The entrée portions are HUGE, and the share plate fee is only three bucks so it’s a great place for a cheap date night!
WHAT TO DO IN QUEENS THIS WEEK
1. Henry Sir & Canadian Friends – Q.E.D. Astoria – Wed. April 30 (7pm)
As seen on Don’t Tell Comedy, Just For Laughs, and Comedy Central, Henry Sir and his band of Canadian friends and fellow comedians Marito Lopez, Jarrett Campbell, and Maddy Kelly take the stage at Q.E.D. to bring their signature flavor (maple) of comedy to Astoria! Make sure to snag some party favors from us on the way and grab your tickets before tariffs on Canadian jokes kick in!
2. Tipsy Scoop Mixology Class – Tipsy Scoop, 23rd Ave. Fri. May 2 (6 – 8pm)
What do we all want when we get stoned? That’s right. Ice cream. But what if that ice cream could get you buzzed? Well, we have good news for you. At Tipsy Scoop they’re offering a mixology class that teaches you to make some of their signature boozy ice cream cocktails. Isn’t 2025 great? The world is on fire, but the weed is good, and the ice cream has alcohol in it. What a time to be alive. Head here first to scoop some fire before you scoop your boozy ice cream. See what we did there? You’ll thank us later. Come to think of it, you’ll probably forget. That’s ok. We forgive you.
3. Ridgewood Street Fair – Myrtle Ave, Sun. May 4 (10am – 6pm)
The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and the smell of deliciously charred meats and sound of loudspeakers pumping music in the distance is filling the air. That can only mean one thing. Spring is here, and with it, street fair season! Not to worry, Astoria locals. Our street fairs are coming soon. However, if you just can’t wait to get a taste of that sweet springtime living, you can pop right over to Ridgewood this Sunday from 10am to 6pm to enjoy theirs! Located on Myrtle Ave. between Wyckoff Ave and Stephen St., expect delicious street food, games, and promotions from local businesses, and of course, handmade and artisan goods for sale from talented creators from not only Ridgewood but all over Queens. Not sure about you, but we’re feeling a cold drink, some hot food, sunshine, music, dancing, and all the other things that make Queens so great in the Springtime (and ALL the time). See you there!
