The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and the sound of blazing torches, chest coughs, and untamed laughter is filling the air. That can only mean one thing. It’s almost 710 and stoners across the city are dabbing their lungs off to prepare for the big Thursday! Not sure what 710 is? Take the number 710, put that thang down, flip it, and reverse it. You got OIL. By oil, we mean live resin, rosin, hash rosin, full melt, or any other cannabis concentrate that can be vaporized in a dab rig or e-rig like the new Puffco Daybreak (available here at Terp Bros Astoria). Dabs are a way to condense that high you get from smoking a joint or a blunt into one or two hits with a much higher dose of THC per hit. Besides that, dabs also offer a concentrated level of terpenes, meaning their scents and flavors tend to be more intense than cannabis flower itself. Whether this is your first 710 or you’re a veteran dabber, Terp Bros Astoria has the right setup for you! From rigs to concentrates of all types, we’re the local one stop shop for all your 710 needs!
WEEKLY FEATURED PRODUCTS
1. OLIO Live Rosin – Straw Jelly 1G (Hybrid)
TERP ALERT! This Straw Jelly live rosin from OLIO is on another level! Starting with the nose, it hits you right away with bright, fresh strawberry and citrus notes, followed by a rich, creamy pastry-like back end. On the inhale, the strawberry flavor shines up front with lingering citrus notes but the exhale is decidedly earthy and clean. No harshness, all taste. You’re gonna want to take this one low and slow to enjoy the full array of flavors. All in all, a very well-rounded choice for anyone that takes flavor seriously and wants something fruity and bright to break up the lineup. If you tend to like the effects of gassier strains, this hybrid won’t let you down. Nice, heavy but cerebral high that keeps you clear headed and reaching for the rig for another taste!
2. NYCE – Cold Cure Solventless Live Hash Rosin – Wedding Cake 1G (Hybrid)
Ok, before you even ask, we got you. The difference between ‘Live Rosin’ and ‘Hash Rosin’ is basically what it’s made from. Hash rosin uses bubble hash that was made from cured or semi-cured cannabis. Then the hash is pressed under high pressure and low heat to express the terpenes and THC. Live rosin is basically the exact same process, only instead of starting with cured or semi-cured cannabis, the starting material is fresh, frozen cannabis. Turning fresh, frozen cannabis into bubble hash preserves a much higher concentration of terpenes and THC, and typically yields a more flavorful, potent final product.
Now that we’ve got our science lesson out of the way, we can finally let the Wedding Cake from NYCE have its moment. You’ll probably need a moment after your first dab to just sit and think about how something so small can pack such an absolutely massive tongue punch of flavor! This stuff has initial notes of pine, sweet candy, and a vaguely floral and earthy, peanut buttery exhale. Flavor wise, this thing checks all the boxes and it has a high to match! It has a nicely balanced hybrid vibe, perfect for outings with friends or sitting at home rewatching Friends. There is never a wrong time for Wedding Cake. Well, besides an actual wedding. You’re dressed in expensive clothes, it’s usually hot, and the cakes are typically full of little sticks to keep them standing. Not good cake vibes. However, the vibes of this Wedding Cake from NYCE are all good, regardless of setting. If any of you have any objections to not having tried this rosin, dab now or forever hold your piece. Get it? Ok, moving on.
3. (and 4) MFNY Grape Guava Live Rosin Batter & Oishii #4 Live Resin Batter
Ok, one more quick science lesson. I promise it’s the last one. Live Rosin Vs. Live Resin. These two are actually pretty different. Live rosin, as we talked about before, is made with hash from fresh, frozen cannabis, then pressed under low heat and high pressure. Live resin, on the other hand, is made with an entirely different process. For live resin, the same fresh, frozen flower you would use to make live rosin, is instead loaded into a tube that is blasted with butane to extract the terpenes and THC from the flower. This process is called closed-loop extraction. The residual liquid from that process is then purged of remaining butane in a vacuum oven. The final product is a terpene-rich, high THC product perfect for dabbing and generally produces a higher yield than concentrates like rosin. Phew, we made it, guys. Back to the fun stuff!
This last featured product is actually two products! That’s right, two featured products in one highlight! Aren’t we lucky to live in this wonderful world? First up is the new Grape Guava Live Rosin Batter from MFNY (Marijuana Farms of New York). This company has been firing on all cylinders since they started and their products reflect that work ethic. The Grape Guava live rosin batter is a must-try for rosin heads and flavor chasers. Especially those that appreciate deep, fruity flavors and gassy exhales with a fully relaxing and kick back type of high. If that sounds good to you, you need to get some of this in your lungs! Also from MFNY, the Oishii #4 live resin batter is a classic that has been revamped a number of times, getting better with each iteration. The #4 is sweet, gassy, and creamy on the inhale with bright, fruity, and candy notes on the exhale. This live resin batter has everything. Do you? Not if you haven’t tried the new products from MFNY. Lucky for you, Terp Bros Astoria has all your MFNY needs, including vapes, carts, and pre rolls too!
5) Jaunty Live Rosin (All Flavors)
Jaunty is a beast in the NY concentrate market. They have completely revamped their process and packaging and we are most definitely here for it! We think you will be too. All of their flavors are on point, so you really can’t go wrong no matter which you choose! We suggest trying one of each but that’s just us. First, the Bloomfruit. A hybrid cross of Strawberry Banana and Rainbow Guava, the terps on this one go crazy! Super flavorful and a high that lasts for hours! Up next, the Papaya Lumina. It has pungent papaya terps on the nose and the inhale with nothing but gas on the exhale with a tropical funk you’ll wish you could taste it all the time. Next up is the Strawberry Meltz for the sativa lovers. Strong candy and fresh strawberry terps pair with a full-bodied, creamy aftertaste that lingers long after your dab and a cerebral, heady, creative high that will have you wondering why you never tried it before. Finally, the Velvet Vine. While not everybody is an indica fan, those of us that are, really are. This one is a standout in the indica lineup with dark, spicy, earthy, and fruity terps that are relaxing from smell to dab and then some. This stuff hits and keeps on hitting! No matter which strain of Jaunty Live Rosin you choose here at Terp Bros Astoria, you’ll be more than happy with your choice.
LOCAL MUNCHIES HIGHLIGHT – IL BAMBINO
If you’ve read these newsletters before (If not, hello and welcome!), then you know we have a tendency to highlight restaurants that are unique, have amazing, flavorful dishes, and are perfect for solo dining, quick bites, or dreamy date nights. We’re happy to announce that the streak is not ending this week because Il Bambino here in Astoria checks all those boxes and then some! From their house-made coffee and tea creations to their lineup of scrumptious sandwiches, you’re sure to find something you like, maybe even love. Here are some of our favorites! Starting with drinks, all of their unique coffee and tea offerings are great and definitely worth trying. However, where we believe this place shines is their variety of flavored hot chocolates. Sure, maybe it’s a little strange to recommend a hot chocolate in the middle of summer, but mouths don’t know what month it is. Drink it somewhere cold. Made in house, they start with a base of delicious, creamy, rich hot chocolate and add in homemade flavorings like red velvet, peppermint, and our personal favorite, peanut butter. If you haven’t had peanut butter hot chocolate, first of all I’m sorry, but secondly, get to Il Bambino now and try it for yourself. Nothing has lived up to the hype more. Moving on to food options, they have an array of appetizers, our favorites of which are the fried pickles and the homemade mozzarella sticks. As for sandwiches, we highly recommend the prosciutto and mozzarella panini with arugula and sun dried tomato pesto. Another heater is the Berkshire smoked ham and truffle sandwich with aged cheddar and their signature ‘dirty chips’. They also offer a wide variety of desserts like fresh Panna Cotta with house-baked pie crumble and a berry reduction or the apricot and almond tartlets. Sweet, bright, creamy, acidic, buttery. All of the good flavors live here. Come to Flavor’s house. Not to be mistaken for Flavortown. No donkey sauce here, but they do have an impressive assortment of ‘Lawless Sauces’ that are made in-house and pair perfectly with their delicious sandwiches and snacks! Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and head down to Il Bambino today. Don’t forget to stop by Terp Bros Astoria first for all your pre-meal puff, puff, pass needs!
WHAT TO DO IN QUEENS THIS WEEK
1. Movies On The Green – Atlas Park Shops – Glendale – Wed. July 9, 8-10pm
One undeniably summer in NYC activity is watching movies in the park. Find a spot with some soft grass, a portable screen and some good friends and you’ve got the makings of a night filled with lasting memories. But what if you don’t want to do all the work of finding a spot and setting it up yourself? No worries, just come to Movies on the Green instead! This Wednesday’s showing is Inside Out 2, but they have a whole summer lineup of fun, family friendly movies to watch with friends or loved ones. Normally, considering it’s an outdoor event, we would say smoke away. However, this is a family friendly event so stop by Terp Bros Astoria for your pre-movie smoke or edibles, and toke up before the show so families can feel comfortable as well. Movies start at dusk, but get there early for a great spot and pre-movie activities that vary weekly.
2. Combover Comedy – Otis & Finn Barbershop – LIC, Fridays 9-10:30pm
Craving comedy and a lineup… of talented, hilarious comics in a unique space? Then look no further than Combover Comedy! Fridays from 9 to 10:30pm hosted inside Otis & Finn’s Barbershop. This show is guaranteed to make you laugh harder than you ever have in a place where people usually get their hair cut! With comics that have been featured on Comedy Central, Netflix, and HBO, the laughs are guaranteed, unlike your haircut if you go to a sub-par barbershop. Luckily, Otis & Finn’s is not one of those. They offer fades with a side of funny every Friday in LIC. Stop by in the day for a cut and at night to cut up!
3. Queens Night Market – Flushing Meadows Corona Park – Sat. 5-11pm
Ok, you caught us. This isn’t the first time we’ve suggested you go to Queens Night Market. But it only happens through the summer, and a friendly reminder never hurts. If you’ve been to food fests like Smorgasburg, then you have got to check out Queens Night Market. The idea is basically the same. A hundred or so food and drink vendors, all serving delicious treats from cuisines that span the globe. The key difference? Queens Night Market caps their vendor prices at $6 per item, with lots of items priced even lower. That means that on a budget, you can still eat delicious street foods and sweet treats from all over the world right here in your own backyard. They also offer live entertainment, beer and wine stands, plenty of room for seating and tables to dine at. They really do offer just about anything you can think of, too! You want corn flake coated chicken tenders from an Egyptian stand with a creamy, spicy dipping sauce? They got you! You want deep fried quail eggs on a stick? Not a problem! You want McNuggets? Sorry to break it to you, only homemade, delicious street food options here. No mass produced, fake BS. Just good food, good fun, and low prices. What more could you ask for? Aside from more dipping sauce, that is.
You did it, guys! You made it to the end of yet another newsletter from the best budtenders this side (or the other side) of the Mississippi. As always, thanks so much for reading! As usual, feel free to reach out to us on IG to give us suggestions on products you’d like to see us carry here at Terp Bros Astoria, as well as events and restaurants you’d like to see featured in upcoming newsletters.
