1. Fela’s Flower 1/8ths (Assorted Strains)

One of the great things about warmer temperatures finally being back is summertime drinks and one of the greatest all time summer drinks is the root beer float! There is just something about creamy vanilla ice cream paired with sweet, bubbly root beer that brings back memories of when things were simpler and all you had to worry about was how you were going to get away with staying up past your bedtime and what cartoons you were going to watch in the morning. Well, guess what? We’re adults now and we can watch cartoons or have root beer floats whenever we want! Also, what’s stopping us from using a root beer that gets us a little high in our chase for everlasting nostalgia? Now that Ayrloom offers a root beer flavor, nothing. Nothing at all.
3. Doja Live Resin Vapes – 2g (Assorted Strains)
We all know that Doja can do no wrong when it comes to flower. LOCAL MUNCHIES HIGHLIGHT – The Freakin Rican Restaurant – 34th St, Astoria
It’s June, and when it comes to food, June can only mean one thing. Puerto Rican deliciousness! If you’re looking for authentic Puerto Rican food here in Astoria, look no further than The Freakin Rican on 34th St. They offer amazing, tastebud tingling Puerto Rican food cooked to perfection with love that you can both taste and feel. They’ve got classic appetizer options like freshly fried alcapurrias, plump and plentiful papas rellenas, and crispy bacalaito cod fritters. For entrees, you can’t go wrong with meat options like slow-roasted pernil, fried chicharron de pollo, and mouthwatering chuletas. They also offer sandwiches, sides, mofongos, even burgers and wings! Our top recommendations are the alcapurrias, the arroz con gandules and of course their lunch specials served Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 12pm to 3pm. The special is different each day but consists of either slow-roasted pork, chicken stew, BBQ pork ribs, beef stew, Puerto Rican lasagna (pastelon), or fried whiting fish with your choice of rice, salad, and a soda all for twelve bucks! You can’t find bigger flavors for lower prices anywhere. Trust us, we’ve tried. Head to Terp Bros Astoria for something to smoke on, then make a B line for The Freakin Rican to soothe your inevitable munchies. You’re welcome.
WHAT TO DO IN QUEENS THIS WEEK
1. KWEEN 3rd Anniversary Celebration – KWEEN Astoria – Tues. June 10th, NO COVER
Celebrate KWEEN Astoria’s 3rd anniversary this Tuesday all day / night with drink specials starting at 4pm. Hosted by Angela Mansberry and Roxy Chanel, this night is a celebration of all things KWEEN. In case you’re not familiar, KWEEN is one of Astoria’s most frequented gay bars and for good reason. It is a beacon for cheap drinks, amazing performances, and community events that highlight local queer performers and drag queens alike. They have all kinds of events from karaoke to drag brunches and so much more! Head on down to KWEEN with all of your friends and help celebrate one of Astoria’s favorite gay bars turning 3 with all of the people that make it so great!
2. Zodiaq (Drag Event) Albatross Bar – Thurs. June 12th, 8pm, NO COVER
It’s Gemini season and what better way to celebrate than attending the Gemini Season edition of Zodiaq at the Albatross Bar here in Astoria? With live singing, tarot readings, local drag queen performances, even cake! (What? Sold!) There is surely something for everyone at this event! Hosts Gigi St. Croix and Supernova grace the stage and present this season’s special guest, the amazing Gem Annai (get it?) for a night of fun, fabulousness, and we almost forgot, cake! No cover, so grab your girls and head to Albatross for a fun night out right here in Astoria. You’ll be glad you did!
3. The Drunken Spelling Bee – ICON Astoria – Sat. June 14th, 6pm
Do you think you’ve got what it takes to out spell the best while drinking others under the table? What if we told you that there were also physical challenges, multiple choice trivia questions and you were playing for free shots and a grand prize giveaway for the number one drunken speller? Well, if you’re still here, we think you might have what it takes to compete in The Drunken Spelling Bee at ICON Astoria this Saturday at 6pm! Outdrink the competition while spelling words like “mitochondria” or “antidisestablishmentarianism”. Alright, maybe that won’t be one of the words, but you never know! If you’ve got what it takes, we’ll see you there!
