Around Terp Bros

Thanks For Giving: A Terp Bros Newsletter

BY: BILL WALLIS

Welcome back and happy Tuesday, Terp fam! The sun is shining (maybe; we didn’t write this today), the birds are chirping, and KFC has two new gravy options. What a time to be alive! Need something to help you decide that Southwest cheddar gravy (whatever that is) is a good idea? We got you! Thanksgiving is only a couple days away, so why not enjoy an unhealthy meal before that, the way they were intended to be enjoyed? Alone, watching your favorite show, with no family members screaming at each other in the background. Ah, the holidays. As always, we’re back with another packed list of new products on the shelves here at Terp Bros as well as some fun events and places to eat along the way. Join us, if you will, on a journey of Thanksgiving bliss, and make sure to be ready to write down some of these can’t-miss recs!

WEEKLY FEATURED PRODUCTS!

1. Rolling Green Flower – Pink Certz – 3.5g

Some strains are just whatever. Flower that you grind, roll, smoke, and repeat. However, others make you take that second sniff when you open the jar. Then a third, a fourth, and so on. Eventually, you’re having your friends smell it to make sure you’re not tripping. Strains that are so sweet and candy-forward that if you close your eyes, you might think you were transported to the sweets room in Willy Wonka’s factory. No Oompa Loompas here, though. The Pink Certz from Rolling Green is one of those strains, and no, you’re not tripping. But you may be falling… in love with this amazing hybrid strain from Rolling Green. Candy terps not your thing? No worries! The people at Rolling Green know what they’re doing, and here at Terp Bros, we know quality when we smoke it. This flower, and all Rolling Green flower (as well as their pre-roll line), are absolute HEAT! Stop by Terp Bros to scoop yourself a jar (or five) today!

3. New Roots Gardens Concentrate (Live Rosin) Assorted Strains

New Hash Alert! Hey there, all you heady hustlers. Today is the day. What day, you ask? Tuesday. Oh, right! It’s also the day you found out that Terp Bros was carrying New Roots Gardens rosin! This stuff is next level and may very well be the highest quality concentrate we’ve carried. We don’t say that lightly, and we know a lot of you take our recommendations seriously, so let us be perfectly clear about this one. You want this rosin. If you’ve wanted any rosin, you want this rosin. The Bickett OG (indica) is a potent and gassy blend of GMO and Cherry Pie, making it a true indica lover’s dream. Gas up front, party in the back! The Lylah’s Rose is a perfect blend of cerebral and relaxing effects, meaning you may still be on the couch, but your head will be in the clouds. One taste of the floral, berry-forward, gas bomb that is Lylah’s Rose and you may never want to taste anything again. Alright, maybe french fries. But that’s not fair. Those things were genetically enhanced to make them undeniably delicious. That isn’t your fault. It will be your fault if you don’t act fast and scoop your New Roots Gardens live rosin here at Terp Bros before they’re gone!

WEEKLY RESTAURANT HIGHLIGHT – KING SOUVLAKI

If you’ve spent any time in Queens, especially here in Astoria, you’ve likely seen King Souvlaki’s restaurant or their numerous trucks parked on corners with heavy foot traffic more than a handful of times. For many, using the word “King” in their name would be arrogant. However, in King Souvlaki’s case, it makes perfect sense. They consistently serve up hot souvlaki sticks in chicken, pork, and sausage, as well as gyro sandwiches and rice platters with delicious homemade sauces! Their tzatziki sauce alone is worth a mention in our newsletter. Yeah, it’s that good. The reason we’ve decided to highlight the local monarch of munchies this week is much bigger than their flavors, which is saying a lot. King Souvlaki graces the throne of our weekly restaurant highlight section today because of their generosity and giving spirit during the holidays. They’re offering FREE meals for people on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, from 12pm to 3pm. Serving our community doesn’t stop at perfectly grilled souvlaki sticks and delectable house-made sauces. It also includes giving back to the people that helped you build your business in the first place. This is something the owner of King Souvlaki understands deeply, as it was handed down to him from his father through a lifetime of examples and experiences witnessing the joy and comfort a home-cooked meal can bring to someone experiencing hard times. Those experiences can be felt to this day through the friendly service and delicious foods being served up at King Souvlaki every day of the week! Times are tough for everybody right now, especially with the holidays looming. So, if you or someone you know could use a free meal this Thanksgiving, head over to King Souvlaki at the corner of 36th Ave & 12th St in Long Island City. Thursday, November 27th, from 12pm to 3pm.

WHAT TO DO IN QUEENS THIS WEEK

1. Queens Craft Brigade Small Business Saturday! Nov 29th, 12-5pm

Queens Craft Brigade is hosting a Holiday Makers Market at Q.E.D. Astoria this Saturday from 12pm to 5pm! Come support both small businesses and local craft makers by shopping from a number of vendors selling handmade jewelry, art, fashion, home goods, and more! This is a great opportunity to participate in Small Business Saturday and get your Christmas shopping done at the same time! While you’re in the mood for supporting local small businesses, maybe carve out some extra time to stop by Terp Bros to pick up some pre-shopping goodies! We’re a small business too, after all! Smoking or not, we think you’ll have a great time shopping and browsing goods from local artists and small businesses.

2. Volunteer To Help Your Community!

While we’re on the subject of donating to help members of your community survive and thrive, you may want to consider donating your time instead. Not all of us have extra money or food to donate to those less fortunate. However, if you’ve got some free time this holiday season, consider donating it to one of many local Queens organizations that need volunteer help. There are a number of places you can volunteer in countless different ways. Here are just a few that might interest you! First, if you want to get hands-on with your help, consider donating your time to the Astoria Food Pantry. They help feed people in our community year-round and are always looking for new and eager volunteers. There are also a number of senior centers throughout Queens that offer opportunities to help teach elderly Queens residents new skills as well as help keep them active so they can continue to thrive for years to come! Some of the centers to check out for volunteer opportunities are HANAC, which also offers instruction to community members of all ages, as well as Queens Community House. Check their websites or call to schedule volunteer time. Another way to help out is to volunteer at Hour Children, which offers support and care for women and children affected by the incarceration of a mother. This program offers food and clothing assistance as well as mentorship programs, tutoring, and so much more! Many animal care centers and rescue shelters could use your help, too. Our furry friends need a little extra help just like us sometimes. No matter how or where you want to volunteer your time, there is likely a place in Queens that could use your help! Take some time this holiday season to reflect and give back. You’ll be happy you did!

Turkey Drive

3. Take a “Cousin Walk” on Thanksgiving!

Sure, the idea of a “cousin walk” is nothing new. However, a cousin walk with goodies from Terp Bros hits different. Don’t have it in you to tell Aunt Karen her green bean casserole is inedible? No worries, we’ve got bud that will make you take seconds and maybe even enjoy it. Can’t take another story about how things “used to be better” from that uncle you only see once a year? Need a break from the perpetual stress that is the kitchen on Thanksgiving? Or maybe you just over ate the appetizers, and the turkey is almost done. You need the right strain to give you that second wind so you can stuff as much gravy-covered comfort food in your mouth as possible before the inevitable sleepiness kicks in. Regardless of why you need to take a cousin walk this Thanksgiving, you can find what you need to get you through the holiday and then some here at Terp Bros. No tryptophan included!

Cousins walk

Well, here we are again, stoners and stonerettes. The end of another weekly newsletter full of fire, food, and fun! Unfortunately, we won’t be back until after the holiday. Until then, we hope you have an amazing time with friends and family. Also, if you do decide to bring some food or other donations to us, thank you. It takes all of us to keep this community thriving, and doing your part means you can rest easy knowing members of your community will be warm, full, and happy this holiday season because of you! Until next week, hug your family, eat good food, and help out when and how you can! Stay high, and get by. Talk to you next Tuesday!
