Also, we’re open at 10am seven days a week now! That’s right, we’re giving you one more hour on Sunday mornings to get your terps before service starts! As usual, these lists are designed to highlight the absolutely insane amount of food and fun options this neighborhood, and Queens in general, has to offer. The struggle when it comes to picking where to eat dinner is real. Especially when you live in a neighborhood like Astoria. What if I told you there was a brand new food hall right down the road in Long Island City that has over fifteen different restaurant options to choose from, all under a single roof? That is exactly what Wonder is. It’s a new idea that brings some of the best restaurants in the area into one place so you don’t have to decide. Want a steak from Bobby Flay Steak and a side of nachos from Limesalt? You got it! Want some totally tender brisket from Tejas BBQ but also have a craving for fried chicken tenders from Streetbird? No worries, Wonder has you covered there, too! While neighborhoods like Flushing have been participating in food hall and food court culture for decades, Astoria and Long Island City are new to the game and we definitely recommend checking them out if you’ve never been to a proper food hall. There is just something about not having to choose just one thing that makes you feel so free! Also, since there are a lot of options to choose from and you’ll likely want to get more than one, we suggest stopping by Terp Bros Astoria before you head to Wonder so your munchies levels can be properly calibrated. 1. Queens Culinary Stroll & Cultural Tour – Jackson Heights – Wed, Aug 27th, 12:30pm
Have you ever wanted to explore the food scene of a different neighborhood but don’t know where to start? Sometimes the hundreds of options can be overwhelming and your trip that starts with intentions of trying something new ends in a defeated trip to McDonald’s for the same fast food burger you’ve had a million times before. Your taste buds deserve new, exciting flavors. You owe it to yourself to try new things and one way to do it that takes some of the guess work out of the equation is to join a tour that focuses on local food spots. There are plenty of food tours, both official and unofficial, in the city and they can make it so much easier to navigate the most worthwhile spots without the daunting task of sourcing and finding them yourself. Sometimes it’s just easier to follow the lead of someone with real experience and trust us, your mouth will thank you for taking the risk!
2. Queens Quest Scavenger Hunt – Astoria Coffee – Thu, Aug 28th, 11:00am
It never hurts to think outside the box for new ways to have fun. Also, being able to think outside the box will likely help you if you decide to participate in the Queens Quest Scavenger Hunt here in Astoria. Starting at Astoria Coffee, you’ll begin your creative, nontraditional search at Astoria Coffee where you’ll get acquainted with your virtual host. This is the person you’ll be communicating with by sending text messages and pictures along the way for clues and task verification. This scavenger hunt goes from indoors to outdoors and is fun for the entire family, including the furry friends. Stop by Terp Bros Astoria on the way to make figuring out the clues more difficult for yourself and have fun exploring the neighborhood. Who knows? Maybe you’ll even find something fun you never knew about!
3. Outdoor Silent Disco – Bohemian Beer Garden – Fri, Aug 29th, 9:00pm – 1:00am
The summer is coming to a close and along with it will go the nice, warm nights we come to know and love every year. Soon they’ll be replaced with rain, snow, and bone chilling wind, but before all of that, take a night to enjoy the nice weather. What better way to enjoy the weather than dancing with hundreds of strangers outside and an old school bohemian beer garden with headphones on while no audible music is playing outside. That’s right, NYC’s biggest silent disco party is right here in Astoria and you can be a part of it! With a mix of live singing and DJs, you can be a part of one of the most awkward looking but also fun activities that has recently taken the world by storm! Depending on your music choices, there are multiple channels you can tune your headphones to so no matter what your vibe, you can listen to what you love and dance the night away! No silent disco is complete without two things: Beer and weed. While the venue itself has you covered on the first thing, Terp Bros Astoria has got you on the second one!
