Around Terp Bros

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Terpmas: A Terp Bros Newsletter

BY: BILL WALLIS

What’s good, Terp ladies and Terp gentlemen? Thanksgiving is over, which means Christmas is approximately thirty-six seconds away. Or, at least that’s how it always feels. The decorations are going up and the leftovers are being thrown away, which can only mean one thing. It’s time to drain your bank account of your annual savings to buy everyone you know something you think they’ll like, if only to be nice. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. Just buy everyone weed instead of trudging through page after page on Amazon, or worse yet, physical stores. Even the mall seems less like a ghost town this time of year. Not to worry. Save your scrolling and get all your holiday gifts here at Terp Bros! Whether you’re closer to us here in Astoria or our new Ozone Park location, we’ve got the gifts that keep on giving… people the munchies. Scoop the perfect gift for your flower-centric friends and family and grab yourself something too. You deserve it! As always, we’ve got a killer list of what to smoke (or buy for someone else) as well as where to cure your inevitable munchies and kick it here in Queens this week! Get your notes app ready; this week is gonna be a banger!

WEEKLY FEATURED PRODUCTS

1. Rolling Green Flower – Assorted Strains – 3.5g

Sure, we may be starting to sound like a broken record here, but the flower from Rolling Green is just so good that we can’t not let you know when they drop new fire on the shelves here at Terp Bros. This week is no exception. Their most recent drop is straight heat from green jars to purple. Starting with the green jars, they’ve got the LA Kush Cake (indica hybrid), which brings peppery, floral, and sweet fruity notes with a relaxing high. Next up (also in green) is the Cookie Envy (hybrid). This one is moving quickly, so be sure to grab yourself a jar (or three) today. Otherwise you’ll be feeling Cookie Envy for everyone that acted faster! Moving on to the orange jars, first up we’ve got Bridesmaid (hybrid). Sweet berries and vanilla frosting scents will fill your nose and tingle your taste buds, and the high will have you feeling alright with being a bridesmaid and not the bride! Next up is the White Truffle (indica hybrid). Its flavor is deep and earthy with notes of sweet floral and vanilla flavors. The high will have you feeling classier than any other flower we carry, and with a price that will leave you a little extra for dinner. Treat yourself. We also have a couple of new purple jars for the true flavor chasers! The Mint Tao, Pink Certz, and Strawberry Jam are all hybrid flavor bombs with unique highs that last for hours! You can’t go wrong with Rolling Green!

WEEKLY RESTAURANT HIGHLIGHT – ROLO’S (RIDGEWOOD)

Who said you have to travel all the way into Manhattan for Michelin-quality food options? Not us, that’s for sure! We know as well as anybody that Queens is not only the best borough for food but also may be the best area for food in the entire country. Whether it’s new Michelin stars being awarded or Bib Gourmand status recommendations, Queens is the place to be if you’re hungry and looking for something quality! This week, we’re focusing on Rolo’s in Ridgewood. This unassuming bar and grill may not look like the most impressive restaurant from the outside, but the menu is a whole world of unmatched flavor and technique that could make Gordon Ramsay blush. He may even call himself a donut for not thinking up this class-oozing menu himself. From the starters to the drinks, and especially the impeccable service, Rolo’s is a treat for any eater. To start, we recommend one of their delicious signature cocktails. Some of our favorites are the Pandan Pina Colada, which blends fresh pineapple with coconut cream, rum, and fresh pandan, as well as the Concord Cosmo with Concord grape juice and fresh lime for the perfect balance of sweet and sour! For appetizers, their wood-fired polenta bread and house-made mortadella are a must, as well as their cheesy potato croquettes and their grilled salt and pepper shrimp! On the hungrier side? One of their pasta dishes or main plates will surely satiate you with style. We love their two-sheet lasagna verde bolognese or the Wagyu beef skirt steak! For a side, don’t miss the grilled pea greens with garlic and lemon. Also, if you’re lucky, you may get to try one of their limited steak cuts or mouthwatering dry-aged cheeseburgers. Get there early for your best chance, as they often sell out at their first seating of the day. No matter what you choose, you’ll be delighted and leave happy and full. For these reasons and many more, we highly recommend you try out Rolo’s in Ridgewood this week, and be sure to tell them Terp Bros sent you!

WHAT TO DO IN QUEENS THIS WEEK

1. The Noguchi Museum

Sometimes it can be easy to get caught up in the concrete jungle that is New York City and forget that this is not just an assortment of tall buildings and nameless strangers. It is also a cultural hub of the world, meaning it is peppered with some of the best, most interesting museums this country has to offer. Queens as a borough in this wonderful city is no exception! In fact, here in Astoria alone, we’ve got the Museum of the Moving Image, which features information and exhibits dedicated to the area’s many contributions to the film industry over the years. Another great museum to check out is the Noguchi Museum. This spot holds a vast collection of Isamu Noguchi’s works. The museum was also founded and designed by the artist! From outside to inside, this place is a true immersive experience that puts you eye to eye (metaphorically) with the artist so you can experience the art as it was truly intended. Not just nailed to a plain, white wall behind red ropes.

This Saturday (December 6) they are opening their stage space to performers of all kinds! Meaning while you would normally be splitting your sides laughing, on Saturday you can catch local spoken word, poetry, and musical performers as well! Comedy is great, and it brings us all together to smile and laugh. However, all kinds of performance art are important! The owners and producers at Q.E.D. know that and have graciously donated their stage to local performers of all kinds! Come by Q.E.D. this Saturday for an amazing and eclectic show! Be sure to tell them we sent you!

Local drag queen legend Sherry Poppins brings her unique performance style to the hits of the past in a show that you will not soon forget! From the 70s, 80s, and 90s, you’ll be lost in the tunes and the performances, and fun will have you hooked! If so, don’t worry. The same show (with rotating tunes) happens EVERY Sunday here at Albatross Astoria! So, grab your friends, get some drinks, and forget that Monday is the next day. That’s tomorrow you’s problem.
