Frozen 3: A Terp Bros Newsletter

BY: BILL WALLIS

Hello again, Terp Bros family! As always, thanks so much for coming back each Tuesday to catch up with us! What a week it’s been. We’ve had arctic temperatures and freezing rain which means you’ve probably been out in some awful weather while trying to prepare for the upcoming holidays. Never fear! We have nothing but fire on the shelves to keep you, your friends, and your family toasty warm this Christmas. Emphasis on the toasty. That’s right! We’re back again like every Tuesday with another list of what to smoke, where to smoke it, and what to munch on when the pre-holiday munchies inevitably kick in. Turn on your favorite Christmas movie, kick your feet up, and join us on a journey that ends with you having a perfect plan for how to spend your next week! Make sure to write down your favorites so you don’t miss out. Christmas only happens once a year!

3. Chocolate Based Edibles – Assorted Brands & Products

For the longest time, edibles were baked goods. Pun probably not intended, but definitely a happy accident. At a certain point, most edibles made the switch to gummies. The switch was likely out of convenience and ease of packaging when dispensaries became legal. However, at least from time to time, we think it’s good to get back to old school. We aren’t crazy, though. We know you probably don’t have the time to decarb bud and make butter or oil and then bake things from scratch. If you do, congrats. You’re blessed with the gift of free time. For those of us who aren’t, a quick workaround is using chocolate edibles in place of your chocolate chips or chunks to make standard recipes into stoney recipes with almost no extra work! We currently have chocolate options from Gron, Kiva, and Punch Bars that would all work great. Even that sounds like too much work? Not a problem! Grab some bread, throw it in the toaster, and head to Terp Bros while it cooks (or wait until you get back home) to get yourself a jar of Cannatella. A cannabis infused chocolate hazelnut spread that is perfect for toast, pancakes, or just by the spoonful! Mix up your edibles routine with some chocolate edibles from Terp Bros this week!

WEEKLY MUNCHIES HIGHLIGHT – MRS. GEORGIA

Alright, let us start this segment with an apology. Mrs. Georgia, until now, has been one of the best kept secrets in the Astoria food scene, and there are certainly going to be people who are upset that we’re highlighting them this week. Not because they don’t think it’s worth shouting out, but because they know that once people find out about this spot, there won’t be an empty seat in the house. We aren’t into gatekeeping here, though. So, without further delay, we present to you the best take on Georgian food that Astoria (and possibly the city) has to offer. Mrs. Georgia. From their appetizers to their main dishes, not a single item on their menu will leave you hungry or unsatisfied. Their Kinkali (think soup dumplings on steroids) are about the size of a grown man’s fist and filled with delicious, savory broth and tender, seasoned meat or mushrooms. Their Khachapuri (think football shaped pizza with cheese, butter, & a runny egg) is big enough to share but tastes so good you won’t want to. It is also available in five options, each tastier than the last!

To start your meal right, order the eggplant walnut rolls. They take thinly sliced fried eggplant and roll it up with a walnut garlic cream sauce and sprinkle it with bright, acidic pomegranate seeds. A dish you have to taste to understand, but once you do, you’ll wonder where it’s been your whole life. Next, grab some Khinkali for the table. We recommend the beef and pork option, but for vegetarians, their mushroom and cheese options are fantastic as well! Feeling like having something a little lighter? Try their assortment of house made breads and delicious soups (hot and chilled) and maybe try their Georgian pickle assortment as well! They also have amazing salads. In the mood for more? They got you! They have so many different fried and grilled meat options as well as traditional Georgian comfort food main plates that we can’t even begin to give you a comprehensive idea of their menu here. You’ll just have to go and check it out for yourself. You’ll be glad you did. Make sure you tell them Terp Bros sent you!

WHAT TO DO IN QUEENS THIS WEEK

1. Light Up & Light Up

The holiday season in New York is magical in so many ways. One of those ways is with the billions of twinkling lights that adorn our trees, houses, and businesses this time of year. A great way to enjoy some holiday fun without breaking the bank is by going to check out some of the amazing Christmas light displays the city has to offer! Sure, we mentioned Dyker Heights last week, and if you still haven’t been to check out the lights over there, it’s definitely worth the trip. The classics are still great, too.

The Rockefeller Christmas Tree, while being infested with hundreds of meandering tourists twenty four hours a day, is still a spectacle that can take your breath away no matter how many times you’ve seen it. Another fun one to catch if you haven’t before is the Saks Fifth Avenue light show that is officially back this year! Moving light displays and synchronized music numbers dazzle and delight hundreds with each showing, and for good reason. The show is like a shot of Christmas adrenaline that could bring even the grumpiest of grinches out of their shells and shine with holiday spirit. It’s infectious! Not feeling the idea of traveling for lights? No need. So many apartment buildings, houses, businesses, and more decorate to celebrate so no matter what neighborhood you live in, you’re likely a short walk away from breathtaking holiday light displays without having to stand clear of any closing doors.

2. Drunk Christmas Carol – Q.E.D. Astoria – Fri, Dec. 19th, 7:30pm

If you’re in the mood for a hilarious and under the influence interpretation and performance of a Christmas classic, then you’re in luck! Q.E.D. Astoria is presenting A Drunk Christmas Carol. The classic story we all know and love, only all of the actors (who are all over the age of 21) are totally drunk! From forgotten lines to drunken adlibs, this show is sure to be a great time and also sure to sell out. If you need a good laugh in preparation for Santa’s imminent visit next week, get your tickets now. They’re only twelve dollars and going fast. Q.E.D. also has a number of shows most nights of the week, so if you can’t make this one, there is always something funny happening there! Tickets also make for great holiday gifts, just saying.

3. Last Minute Gift Shopping

Underneath all of the hustle on the surface of the city, we’re still procrastinators. That means that this time of year the stores are flooded with frantic shoppers trying to find that perfect something for everyone they love. That can lead to a lot of stress and anxiety. Those things do not help with holiday spirit, or anything for that matter. However, there are a few ways to take some of the stress out of last minute holiday shopping. First, and probably most obvious, start sooner. The sooner you start shopping for the holidays, the less time you have to spend shopping during the time of year you’re supposed to be relaxing and celebrating the year with friends and family. If starting early isn’t possible because you don’t have a time machine, you can also make sure to buy yourself gifts along the way. You’re out there braving sub-freezing temps and skyrocketing prices to give the people you love a good holiday and that is worth treating yourself as well. Get yourself that sweet treat between stores. Take that seat for a couple of minutes. Give your feet a break. Remember that the most important part of the holidays is spending time with loved ones and thinking about them when buying gifts. It isn’t the price tag that matters. One last way to make last minute holiday shopping easy is to get all of your gifts here at Terp Bros this year. We have gifts for every kind of THC or CBD lover. From single pre rolls to packs of up to 20, concentrates, vapes, edibles, and so much more! Raise spirits and lower eyelids with holiday gifts from Terp Bros. Not sure what to get people? No problem! One of our highly skilled budtenders can help you craft the perfect assortment of gifts for all of your stoney loved ones!

This is always our least favorite part of the newsletter. If you have suggestions for restaurants we haven’t highlighted, products you love on the shelves here at Terp Bros, or events coming up here in Queens or anywhere in the city, shoot us a DM on Instagram and we’ll do our best to get your suggestions in an upcoming newsletter.
